Mage Noir is a historical setting for Mage: The
Awakening. In this book, you’ll find information on
the 1940s—the decade that saw the Second World
War, the shocking beginning of the nuclear age, the
birth of the Cold War, the country’s paranoid obsession
with communism and the hard-boiled detective
story.

Se già il world of darkness non era abbastanza darkness, c'è il manuale di ambientazione del 1940 - è davvero grimdark.
@Laitorn @Raufestin @Mikhail Mengsk

The mood of this book is cynicism. Writer and
editor Charles Ardai defines noir as “crime fiction
written by pessimists.” It’s a perfect description of this
book — a cynical view of the world of the Awakened.
Not all change is good, and not all Awakenings are
for the best. Even those that try to make the best of
bad situations are sometimes doomed to failure by
circumstances they cannot hope to control.

a tal proposito:
FYI
We aren’t advocating the consumption of
illegal drugs. Mage: the Awakening is a
fictional game, and this is a fictional exploration
of one aspect – one tradition – of
magic. So, stay in school, drink your milk,
and don’t do drugs.

Sample Character
Kalvis
Quote: “If this demon is as dangerous as you say, wouldn’t you
prefer a magic chainsaw?”
Background: Davian Barrow Awakened on the operating table
after a drunk driver crashed into his car. In his dream, he tried
to reach a dull-gleaming tower across a dark, rocky landscape. A
black-skinned dwarf offered to replace his crushed leg with a new
leg of iron. Barrow, however, didn’t like the dwarf’s smile, and
anyway, he was an aeronautical engineer. He called his supplier
on his cell phone (it was a dream, after all) and ordered sheet
magnesium and aluminum tubing. He built wings using the
dwarf’s tools and flew to the Watchtower of the Lead Coin. The
Free Council found him soon after Barrow left the hospital and
told him he was a mage of the Moros Path. Barrow’s recruiter
suggested he consider joining the Forge Masters.
Barrow resisted the suggestion for two years, but his future
tutor drew him in by consulting him about metallurgy. For
his shadow name, Barrow’s mentor wanted to give him the
name of an African smith-god. Barrow thought that was racial
stereotyping. His ancestors lived in Jamaica for 300 years and
his parents left there before he was born; what was Africa to
him? He chose the name of an obscure Baltic god who had
forged spurs for the gods to use on their celestial horses. Kalvis
required more than a decade of work and training, however,
before his teacher was satisfied Kalvis knew traditional smithcraft
as well as high-tech metalworking.
Since becoming a true Forge Master, Kalvis has become one
of the Legacy’s more vocal advocates for modernity. As Davian
Barrow, he works as chief engineer for a plant that makes aircraft
parts, where his magic subtly boosts the efficiency of the
machines. As a mage, he crafts high-tech magic weapons and
armor for Adamantine Arrow colleagues, such as assault rifles
temporarily empowered with Primal Tempering. His crippled
leg prevents him from taking the field himself, though Kalvis
recently killed a demon by running it over with a Primally
Tempered SUV. In his spare time, Kalvis experiments with
“impossible” metal alloys created using Matter. If he can find
something useful, he might start his own business.

No, no, I get it. You think we’re joking.
I hear you: “Meh-ha-hee-ha, oh, trenchcoats and strippers, it’s an
April Fool’s Day thing from those wacky White Wolf guys again. They’re
probably drunk on mezcal, or high on the dust ground from the bones of
a long-lost subterranean humanoid race.”
Drunk? Yes. High on the bone dust of a fallen hobbit speciesì Duh.
But we’re not fucking around. You put that out of your head. You
put it out of your head, or we’ll kick it out. With boots. With fat, clunky
steel-toe construction boots.
Yeah, keep on giggling.
See, you think whatever you want, but strippersì Awesome. Lesbian
strippersì Double-awesome. Lesbian strippers whipping off their trenchcoats
only to reveal a katana tucked delicately in a garter or g-string?
That is a face full of awesome. Your face will be dripping with awesome.
The sauce of awesome will give you a nasal enema.
